Dr. Nassau was born in Philadelphia, April
12, 1804; graduated at the University of Pennsylvania in 1821;
studied theology at Princeton and was ordained by the Presbytery of
Philadelphia, November 16, 1825; he was pastor of Norristown 1825-33.
He
taught at Montgomery Square, 1829 - 32; was professor of Latin and Greek
in Marion College, Missouri, 1836-38; was Vice-President and
Professor of Latin and Greek in Lafayette from 1841 to 1848, and acting
President until 1850, when he took charge of the Young Ladies' Seminary at
Lawrenceville, N.J., which prospered greatly under his able
administration.
From this
position he withdrew in 1875, and died at Trenton, N. J., August 6,
1878. He received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Jefferson
College.
